The Flower Bowl Spell Blog Tour

Mark your calendars all you readers, bloggers, and the like, because I’m taking The Flower Bowl Spell on our first virtual blog tour. After much research, I engaged the amazing Colette, who has run her A Buckeye Girl Reads blog for three years and recently launched a book blog touring company. She’s been fantastic, absolutely approachable and helpful, and the experience has been completely painless. (Thank you, Colette!) Right now, she’s scheduling bloggers to host and there will probably be a variety of fun activities, from excerpts to interviews to reviews to me guest blogging to giveaways, so check back often to see where the book or I will be in the blogosphere. The tour will run from June 11 to 25, 2012.

And perhaps I’m absolutely coo-coo, but for part of the time I’m on tour, I’ll be attending workshops and lectures at the Book Passage Children’s Writers & Illustrators Conference at the unsurpassed Book Passage bookstore in Corte Madera, California. For years, I’ve been a fan of Book Passage and always wanted to attend one of their incredible conferences. I “won” this spot at a fundraising auction held at my daughter’s school, and I couldn’t be more psyched (that’s 1980s teenager speak for delighted). It’s been at least three years since I attended a writers’ conference, and I’m looking forward to getting immersed in a world where people intensely care about writing and reading. And since I’m working (I use that word loosely) on a young adult prequel to The Flower Bowl Spell, the conference couldn’t come at a better time to get those creative juices flowing. Mother’s Day Gift—List of Book Blog Tours

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone! Yes, this is how I spend my morning—posting on my blog. I also folded laundry and painted my kid’s nails, but I did get breakfast in bed. That doesn’t happen every day.

Anyway, it’s been an exciting time around Casa Writerville. Paperback book sales of The Flower Bowl Spell are on. My husband received his first copy (knowing him, he’ll buy more) in the mail. Talks are happening with one of my favorite local San Francisco bookstores, Bird & Beckett, for me to read there. I launched a discussion on Book Blogs about blog tours that’s currently featured on that website’s home page. And I’m gathering intell about book blog tours, making queries. I thought, as my Mother’s Day gift to you, dear readers and writers, I’d share what I’ve learned.

There are several book bloggers and publicists running blog tours and blitzes (a less expensive alternative to tours), doing the organizing with bloggers they know so the author doesn’t have to do it herself. That’s why you’re paying them, right? Most include in their packages badges, buttons, promos on Twitter and Facebook, personal tour pages, book and ebook giveaways, author interviews on the participating bloggers’ sites as well as character interviews, links to retailers, and reviews.

Book Blog Tours I’ve Explored So Far

Young Adult Novel Reader: Rachel is a blogger who mainly focuses on YA novels, but is currently expanding her reach to authors and bloggers in other genres. Reasonably priced tours are available, from a $10 cover reveal to a $100 month-long tour.

Bewitching Book Tours: Pretty well established, the prices are right too, from $25 for a one-day release blitz to the $150 Make Magic Happen 1-month blog tour. These bloggers specialize in paranormal, urban fantasy, and paranormal erotica.

Goddess Fish Promotions: Over here, they like romance of all kinds—fantasy, paranormal, suspense, historical—as well as YA and Middle Grade fiction. Prices range from $40 for a 1-week tour to $210 for the Super Premium with 20 blog stops over 4 weeks AND creation of a book video. Pretty sweet deal because a book video is something I haven’t even begun to wrap my mind around…*sigh*

Cozy on the Couch: Recently launched by book blogger Colette of A Buckeye Girl Reads, Cozy on the Couch has reasonable prices and since it’s so new, might offer very personalized service. The most expensive tour package is $19.99, and includes 5 blogs over a week.

Tribute Books: Also a publisher, Tribute Books has a variety of book blog tour services, from a $50 5-stop spotlight tour to the $300 20-stop tour. They seem like a good choice for any genre.

Nurture Your Books: Kind of the Cadillac of book blog tours and offering a number of other publicity services. You need to fill out their online form to find out prices, but they are comprehensive.

There’s more out there of course. But for now, I have to go get ready for my Mother’s Day luncheon. :)
